How To Tune The Guitar

The first task a person must master before learning to play the guitar is tuning the guitar. There are literally dozens of ways to tune the guitar, all depending on the style of music you are playing. All beginners should learn the basic tuning method which works for most electric and acoustic six string guitars. Tuning can be accomplished by ear or even better, with an electric tuner, which can be purchased for less than fifty dollars. Basic tuning should start with the thickest E string (which should already in tune), on the fifth fret and progress downward. The fifth string when open should be tuned to match the tone of the sixth string, fifth fret. The fourth and third string are tuned the same way. The second string is also tuned the same way, except that it is tuned from the fourth fret of the third string. Finally the first string is tuned the same was as the fifth, fourth, and third strings.
