Hair loss in any person can be devastating. However, hair loss especially severe hair loss, can be an even more devastating experience for women rather than for men. Women’s hair loss of this magnitude can lower a woman’s self-esteem , due mainly to the reality of cultural norms, society’s idea of femininity, and the expectation that a woman should have glossy, long, well-kept hair. We know this because of the types of magazines women read and because they are directed straight at them with this ideal printed in them. It is probably an unknown fact that about half of the female population will, at some point in their lives, suffer will hair loss.
