For a diabetic person, exercise and insulin can have different effects depending on the exercise types and severity of the diabetes condition. However, the more you exercise, the less insulin you need, so lowering insulin intake is necessary when you exercise. The amount of insulin to reduce can vary between just a little and as much as half of the daily dose. Generally, low-to-medium exercises such as walking and cycling can let you decrease your insulin intake by one or two units. Sometimes, the level may have to be reduced as much as eight units, so it’s very important to constantly monitor your blood glucose level and be in touch with your doctor for advice.
