A Response To “Teacher Fight Heating Up”

The reasoning behind “No Child Left Behind” is a good. Teachers and educators need to remember that all children learn differently and that success for one child is not necessarily success for all children. What a child can achieve is limited only by our expectations of them.

Schools are only part of the stability of student population, especially Elementary schools. Young children have young parents navigating jobs and careers and or careers. Figuring out why the better schools are better is generally pretty obvious. Figuring out how to resolve it is a whole other story.

And oh, the teacher better really know the situation and the teenager with raging hormones before giving out hugs.

Tips for Getting a Job

There are a lot of people out there who are still looking for a job and for many people this has meant applying for just about every job out there due to the fact that some individuals who might otherwise not realize that a particular industries isn’t doing well would be focusing all their attention on a very narrow segment of the business world. A great way to determine which industries are performing well is to speak with individuals at a staffing services company because the jobs that are available through such an entity would be a good indicator of what industries are hiring.

My Take On “Santorum’s Rise Brings New Attacks”

Randall, I disagree with you. There IS a separation of church and state just as there should be. What you are really saying is that people desire that our leadership wants leaders who believe in God and who will use their values when forming policy.

The ‘separation of church and state’ has been watered down from its original intent. It was meant to mean that the leadership of the two institutions should not directly dictate policy on the other side of the equation. That means that bishop so-and-so should not be able to tell president he-ho to create a policy that tells all Americans to go to his church or they will be excommunicated and go to the fiery place. The opposite is true as well. President he-ho can not tell church leadership that their congregants must behave in a certain manner or they will go to jail.

You really want a leader who shows sound moral judgement and values leading our country. I for one believe a Christian would make a great leader, but that does not mean that a Christian is the only one who would make a great leader. Many of our past presidents proclaim their Christian faith and yet lived compromised lives and made policy that showed they didn’t really stand on their morals. If faced with that kind of candidate again, then I would prefer a non-Christian leader who stands on their values (so long as I agree with their basic values) than the Christian who is lukewarm or hypocritical.

Strong values = strong leadership.

Opinion On “Tallying the Toll of U.S.”

I agree with you. How is betting advice a stock will go up or down different from betting on a horse at the racetrack? Or on a sports competition?

It is a bet, based on limited information that you have no real stake in either way (you don’t own the stock, you just are betting it will go down or up). You aren’t producing anything, selling anything, or adding any form of value or ‘production’. It’s gambling in my opinion. They might as well just bet on what a pair dice produces.

Apparently derivatives started off as insurance policies on commodities or something to that effect (if I plant oranges today, and sell them at the harvest in 8 months, I need to assure I will get x amount of money for my orange crop, so I might take out an insurance policy-derivative-to make sure I get at least the x amount of money I was expecting).

But derivatives have just become bets on stocks. Nobody really understands the implications of this derivatives market which is why the best financial institutions in the world can go belly up by their exposure to this derivatives market (Lehman Brothers or AIG).

They should probably make derivatives illegal or high regulated but the politicians are bought off by corporations making too much money in this market. And besides, if the banks get in trouble again, Washington (all of us) will just bail them out again.

Thoughts On “Rugby World Cup: Hints of NFL in Rugby”

I beg to disagree, as the stoppage of play is what defines American fantasy football advice. Thus, one has time for two wholly separate squads, almost entirely scripted plays, and kicking is a rare, completely scripted ceremony. In rugby football, players still play BOTH offense and defense, executing plays on the fly. Kicking remains a live skill alongside back passing and running, so the intelligence comes from the players rather than the coaches. Americans rightly view their football as a game of strategy, with layers of authority and fulfillment. Rugby remains primarily an athletic contest between two groups of players, rather than a war between two teams – from owners, fundraisers, coaches, masseuses and finally athletes.

Thoughts On “Who Quits Before Race Day?”

Ethan: It’s probably is unlikely a non-runner could appreciate the article. Once you’ve applied the willpower and consistency to a dog training advice regimen for 4-6 months, w/o missing a workout, scruplously avoided spurious calories, surmounted myriad challenges, looked forward to x-training as a ‘day off’ every week, been fortunate enough to avoid injury along the way, and still had hardly considered, as the article so poignantly reminds us, the angst of desolation and despair felt by some for ‘wasn’t meant to be,’ and had almost forgotten to be especially grateful to make it to the start yourself, only then would you would understand . As undoubtedly, many loyal readers of the WSJ will find themselves lining up on Race Day, or at least dreaming of the event, perhaps you should take up running, maybe even try to a 5K. Perhaps you’d even feel better about yourself.

My Take On “Lawmakers Lose in Markets”

You’ll note, ladies and gentlemen, that my point about the worst stock advice markets in the last hundred years stands.

It’s an absolute fact that the worst markets belong to Nixon, Hoover, and Bush II–and not, as you might expect, to Carter or Clinton or even the dreaded Roosevelt.

These were periods of unmitigated disasters for investors, and they happened under Republican Presidents.

I think the recent Republican fight over the debt ceiling might just be an indication of how they would govern–sort of let’s give the patient cancer now since he’s going to get it anyway.

I am many things, but I have forty years in the investment business and am hardly delusional about the stock market.

Magnetic Sheets For Magnetic Advertising

Do you have a company that you would like to promote? Is there a cause to merchandise? Then one of your best options could be creating magnets through the purchase of magnetic sheets. Magnetic sheets are cut into the various shapes, logos, and slogans that can help promote your business or even be cut into magnets sold as retail. Magnets always have a special place on the refrigerator, easily seen at eye level and lasting for many years. With this in mind, magnets become a valuable piece of stock in both the retail business and the advertising business. Magnetic sheets are therefore integral in the process of selling these magnetic ads. These magnetic sheets can also be cut into magnetic strips, to place on the backs of notepads, pens, and other things so that they are easily reachable on your refrigerator or other magnetic surface.

Product Photography Glasgow – Interactive Treatment

product photography Glasgow – Interactive Treatment

Now not every product lends itself to the interactive treatment. Customers don’t need to examine every angle of a packet of Corn Flakes for instance. There is nothing to be gained from a presentation of a light bulb, however, a digital camera, the inside of a car, clothing and designer goods, perfume, handbags, shoes etc. all benefit fit from this interactive ‘video’ facility. Like everything in business you need to decide whether the additional cost of taking what is effectively 36 photographs instead of one is worth it.

Criticism On “Buffett Bets $10.7 Billion in Biggest Tech Foray”

If I could have gotten Buffett’s deal with BAC, I would have taken it too. Preferred stock advice with a juicy dividend (6%), high buy-out fee (5%) if BAC decides to pay it off early, and the option to buy a lot of stock. Even if they never use the stock options at $7 and change, this was still a great deal for BRK. If the stock price goes back above that strike price, it will have been a phenomenal deal.

Now it looks like BAC is trying to raise money to retire his preferred shares. If they are successful and retire his shares after he has owned them for 1-2 years, he will have earned an 8-11% return on his $5 billion investment. Not bad if you can get it….

Analysis On “Vulcan in Chief”

one day the non government non union workers of the nation will either withold by force or go on strike and not produce or allow any wealth transactions for oh say a week. No nothing, except maybe some food and candles and saved water. Sure the utilites might get a break up advice (do it in the fall. or early spring..) but the loss of tax revenue will be eye opening. Otherwise its force. Most americans even repubs cannot fathom such a sacrifice of body and mind. But until either happens have fun giving you and yours aways to the leeches…

Views On “‘Bad Recipe’ for Risk Management”

It’s obscene that MF’s clients, who include 100′s of small business advice investors, farmers and small business owners are out perhaps as much as $1.2b while Corzine walks away scott free. And after pulling basically the same type of genius trade that just crashed the financial system: Glom onto a big pile of other people’s money, lever the bejeesus out of it, and make an enormous bet (doesn’t really matter on what — bonds, cockroach races — as long as it’s big). If it happens to go your way, take the profits. If it tanks, just step out of the way, blame the markets and pay yourself handsomely. If there were any justice in the world Corzine would be spending the rest of his life dumpster diving.

Commentary On “Tom Frank: Goldman and the ‘Sophisticated’ Investor”

This is a bunch of horse manure. What Goldman Sachs was doing was acting as middle-man between 2 gamblers. As a middle-man, Goldman took a cut of what was on the table.

As for regular investors, if you stuck with the normal teen advice that I always got, 1/3 stocks, 1/3 bonds, and 1/3 cash and recalibrate every six months to a year, you should have returned to your pre-crash levels by now; unless of course you bailed out at the bottom.

For those who like to buy high and sell low, that’s why you diversify your portfolio between stocks, bonds and cash and why you alway recalibrate after six months. The recalibration forces you to take profits when stocks are high and to buy them when they are low; this is not rocket science, just common sense conservatism versus unbalanced greed

The Mighty Pen

The pen is mightier than the sword, which is why nobody underestimates the power of the written word. The same power is evident in using promotional pens as a way of promoting your business and getting your products and services out there effectively.

The first rule of using promotional items is using ones that consumers use often. And despite the computer being as commonplace as it is now, there are still some people who appreciate writing in the traditional way. Coming up with pens that work well even after several uses and ones that don’t quickly run out of ink, not to mention made of high-quality materials, with your company logo printed clearly on it ensures your business success in no time.
