What is the Job of Medical Coding?

The job of medical coding is assigning codes to diagnoses provided by doctors to help insurance companies and health care providers figure out the finances.  People who want to work in this field must go through years of training and obtain certification.  A medical coder will do things such as help identify the insurance claims and review the entire medical history of a patient.  In the early years, this type of work had to be done by highly trained people, but with the advent of more powerful computers, it is now possible for health care providers and insurance companies to outsource this kind of work.
