The Basics of Dog Collars

Dog collars are one of the most essential accessories that you will need for your dog.  Not only will the collar serve to hold identification tags, but it will also help you control your dog and give your dog its own fashionable accessory.  Dog collars come in a wide range of sizes, shapes, colors, and types to suit your needs and your or your dog’s personal taste.  You can purchase dog collars at pet stores or you can fashion your own dog collar, but the most important thing to remember is that your dog’s movement shouldn’t be restricted by the collar, unless that is the specific purpose of the collar (for example, with halter-style collars).  Typically, the collar should always remain on your dog, but there are times that you can take the collar off, such as when you put your dog in its kennel, crate, or any other area where the dog won’t be able to escape and run away.
