According to Anderson, a Debt Collection agent is not an enemy. Their job is only to work toward a mutually beneficial solution and help figure out a way to pay off the debt. Which way the industry is headed again depends on whose opinion you believe; perhaps on whose facts are more convincing? The actions of the less reputable debt collectors run the gamut from reporting falsely to the credit bureaus to filing false arbitrations that only benefit the” fat cats” and their lawyers at an average of $250 per person paid off, per suit. Despite the arguments of those like Ms. Anderson, public opinion of debt collection agencies and their collectors is very low; few have ever met a debt collector they liked. It is hard to say which side will win, good or “evil” in the case of the debt collection industry. Perhaps one day the industry can change, it is supposedly misleading reputation, garnered through the unjust actions of a few, and gives those few the boots to the rear they so justly deserve. From going south in a hand basket, to redeeming themselves as an industry through blood sweat and tears, the debt collection industry is certainly on the move and without a dull moment.
