The car mover from Hell — how to uncover him

The car mover from Hell is not as easy to spot as you might think.

For one thing, they have successfully evaded detection for long enough to be in business. So here is Rule Number One, in our search to avoid hiring a car mover who will turn out to be a disaster; don’t assume that because a company has an office they also have a good track record. The Market is not as efficient as the Harvard Business School professors want us to believe.

Also, they make their living by their wits. By sizing up potential customers. They will learn more about you during the brief time it takes for you to walk into their office and shake hands across the counter, then you will have learned by the time you’ve talked for half an hour and are driving away in your car. They are street-wise and can hide their poor performance until you’ve signed the contract and things are rolling.

But they can be uncovered if you take the time to ask around. After all, you live in the same town as them. You are moving from the town you know and going to a largely unknown destination. Right? Not the other way around. So you have local contacts and can probably find out about cars damaged in transit and deadlines not met.

Find a good car mover by asking around before engaging a company to move your car.
