Like all technologies hybrid cars have their strong points and weak points. The advantages are cleaner burning and reduced fuel consumption. The disadvantages are higher costs and continued reliance on fossil fuels.
While significant due to their availability, hybrid cars are only a step in the evolution of transportation technology to reduce reliance on non-renewable fuels.
